Workout review: Insanity Max 30 – Max Out 15

I wasn’t planning on doing a post for this workout. I’m in the process of finishing a full review of the Insanity Max 30 program (spoiler alert: it’s GREAT), and this workout in particular is part of the “deluxe” kit. I stumbled upon it because I just happened to scroll to the right after I finished the “Pulse” workout in the basic Max 30 kit. At only 15 minutes, I figured, “what the heck – I could sweat a little…”


The workout is called Insanity Max 30 – Max Out 15. It is part of the Ab Maximizer add-on to the Insanity Max 30 program. I looked through the calendars online (through the materials), and I don’t see where it would integrate in. Even on the “ab maximizer” calendar, there isn’t a clear spot to sub in Max Out 15. Unless you are just curious, and happen to try it when you are cycling through the 360 Abs and/or Max Out Abs, you will end up missing a hidden little gem.

Along with Overtime from Insanity: Asylum Volume 1, this workout will now be one of my “go-to” workouts if I’m in a time pinch, and I’m too lazy or busy to program something for myself. I “maxed” out relatively early in this one, so I certainly could keep doing it to see if I can push my threshold.


Overall Workout Rating:

MODIFIERS!!! They not only added modifiers for every move, they even have a viewing option that sets up a separate window to watch the modifier the whole time. Great job! This workout really doesn’t have much in the strength department – it’s just more of a workout to get you sweating quickly and as long as possible.

I give this a solid 4 out of 5 ass-kickings due to the amount of work he crammed into such a short period of time.

Equipment Required: none – this is all bodyweight.

Workout Structure: no “warm up” – just 15 moves for 1 minute each, and then a 2 minute cooldown.

Calorie burn: 198 C (in 15 minutes!)

Heart rate chart: not bad for 15 minutes

Exercise List: 

  1. Power knee – both legs
  2. Low switch kick punch
  3. Speed knee tap
  4. Jab lunge + hop squat
  5. Plank speed tap – both feet
  6. Hop, hop, runner
  7. Hit the floor + tuck jump – I HATE THESE
  8. Hop uppercut – nice recovery after #7
  9. 1-2-3 shuffle kick
  10. Push up + spider lunge
  11. High knee jab
  12. Hurdle drill
  13. Ab attack + kick – both legs
  14. X jump + X plank – tough, but I like these
  15. Plank jack arm raise – alternate
